I am currently in France and the other day I cooked for my French friends, who had never tried Korean food before. They were abolutely blown away by the new flavours. I cooked bulgogi, japchae and kimbap as they couldn't eat anything spicy. They loved bulgogi, especially. It is very rare to find Korean restaurants here, none in many cities. Why do you think that is? When people try Korean food, they love it. I want to see more Korean restaurants in other countries.

you have right frensh people does not like spicy food ^^ but you were great when you had chosen to cook for them these recipes . the most exciting thing in korean kitchen that you find all kind of taste ,in other word, anybody ca find in korean kitchen his taste ; vegertian , spicy ,sweety or halal ( for muslim) so korean kitchen has all the reasons to be spread easily internationlly. it is just need to let people make difference between japanese , chinese and korean culture ( hallyu wave is a great idea as exemple) because for people who doesn't have basic knowledge about these cultures they will gather all in one name ' asiatic recipe' which will be unfair for the rest.^^

Yes, I agree that Korean cuisine has more flavours than neighbouring countries, but people know Chinese and Japanses or Thai food but not Korean food. I was very glad that I gave the French people the opportunity to discover the Korean taste. I will continue to host more food sessions like the last one to promote the Korean food culture. Do you have a big Korean community in Morocco?

A few quick fixes to promote Korean food:
1) In Korea? All 5 star hotels in Korea should have a Korean restaurant, even if they lose money with it. Pedagogy about quality: culturally, Koreans are not ready to pay for an expensive korean restaurant making fine cuisine, but ok to pay a lot for terrible western food - that's both unfair and counter-productive.
2) Overseas? Pedagogy and tools for Korean restaurants abroad (ie same orthograph and definition for key dishes, leaflets...)
3) Advertise on diversity and intensity:

I agree that Korean food has been overlooked, particularly by European foodies. I have noticed that Korean food is getting more play on Foodnetwork type shows like Chopped and Iron Chef.

How about a fusion of Korean and French cuisines? This weekend in LA, Chef Ludo Lefebvre has been commissioned by the Look East Korean Film Festival to cook a Korean meal for the festival's stars including Byung Hun LEE. The meal, unfortunately, is for the celebs and VIPs (tickets are $3K!) but I'm intrigued by Chef Ludo's teasers. One dish that he says is on the menu is Foie Gras Japchae!

I'm working with the festival - and while I won't be dining with Chef Ludo - I hope to get a full read of the menu. You can learn more about the festival and food at the website - LookEastFestival . com.

I wish there were more youtube videos and video tutorials about Korean food available in English. It would be great to learn simple recipes in English! And I imagine it'd be a good change to cook Korean dish that goes well with some beer, or soju, etc. for your friends and family.
