Although the “froyo” craze that swept Southern California (and elsewhere) into yogurt frenzy seems to have subsided, I concluded it would do no harm to pay homage to the people that started it all, Red Mango.  Frozen yogurt does not exactly elicit images of Korea or Korean-ness, but Red Mango hails from South Korea, and when I was an exchange student at Yonsei, it was not uncommon for me to pop into the huge two-story Red Mango outlet in front of Ewha University.  

Tart frozen yogurt, with some fresh fruit and a sprinkling of cereal for texture.  This was the usual treat after having a boiling pot of soondubu for dinner.

The Red Mango in front of Ehwa always had the best waffles… crispy around the edges, eliciting the delicate aroma of vanilla.

The decor inside Red Mangoes are very clean and almost industrial, with charming messages etched onto tables like the one above, which says “Love Yourself.”
