Plans for the Korean food cooking contest for foreigners in Korea

1. Purpose of the event

❍ The aim of the event is to hold a Korean food cooking contest for socially-renowned foreigners in Korea to promote Korean foods familiar to foreigners and fuel a boom for Korean food.

2. Outline of the event

❍ Date: Nov. 9 (Wed.), 2011, 11:30~14:30

❍ Location: Coex exhibition center 3rd floor, Hall C (Samseong1 -dong 159, Gangnam-gu, Seoul)

❍ Theme: “Korean food that I would like to serve my friends”

❍ Hosted by: Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries

❍ Supervised by: The Korean Food Foundation

❍ Participants: 20 teams of foreigners in Korea (2 individuals per team, with family members, friends, etc.)

❍ Application period to participate: Oct. 17 (Mon.) ~ Nov. 3 (Thu.)

❍ How to apply: fill out and submit the application form on the website of The Taste of Korea Hansik www.hansik.org

❍ Participation fee: none

3. Plans

Selection of participants

❍ (Number of Participants) 20 teams of foreigners in Korea (2 individuals per team, with family members, friends, etc.)

Contest theme

❍ Theme: “Korean food that I would like to serve my friends”

- Based on the theme, participants can choose the menu and recipe. (The menu and recipe must be identified in the application form.)

- Creative “original” recipes are also welcome.

- 4 servings of food must be submitted for evaluation (300g per serving)

* One portion for expert evaluation, and three portions for audience evaluation

* After the selection of participants, the food ingredients required for the menus and recipes of participants will be provided by the institution supervising the event on the contest day.

Evaluation plan

❍ Expert evaluator

- Around 5 domestic and foreign cooking experts

❍ Audience evaluation

- The audience will also participate in the evaluation to encourage audience participation

Evaluation Criteria

❍ The point allotment between the expert evaluation and the audience evaluation will be in the ratio of 7 to 3 (Total of 100 points)

❍ Audience evaluation Criteria (proposal)

- Teams will be scored according to the number of stickers earned.

Award plan

❍ Teams selected as prize winners will be awarded certificates and prizes.

- Minister for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries prize and Korean Food Foundation chairman prize, etc.

❍ The team that has won the grand prize (Minister for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries prize) will be appointed as an honorary ambassador for the promotion of Korean food.

Broadcasting plan

❍ All the procedures of the contest will be filmed and made into a documentary.

- The documentary will be broadcasted around the world through special programs, KBS WORLD, etc.
